- Overcall -- 4+ ♠; 13+ total points
|
The opponent's 2 ♠ overcall changes things a little. Normally 3 ♠, a new suit would show a singleton and conveniently we have one here. However it could be possible with two or three small to need to ask for a stopper with a balanced hand.
Notice again north's 3-minor is based on a 15 hcp with the singleton.
There is a good case for north being more optimistic and jump to 4 ♦ rather than 3 ♦ since the hand has improved on the bidding.
Notice how when missing the ♦ KQ that the good slam is hard to bid with the use of key-card (or better kickback at the four level) as these two cards will be found to be missing.
